10 Fun Gifts for the Girl in Your Life

1. We've said it before but we'll say it again: The Sak is back, and back in a big way. The leather on these bags is buttery soft, and the colors? Like a rainbow. Most of the styles are convertible, going from a classic shoulder bag to a clutch or tote. So really, it's like you're giving two gifts in one!

2. These candles are the perfect go-to gift when you really don't know what to give, or when you just need to find something little but something special. They've got a fresh, clean scent, and the cute monogrammed box makes gift wrapping a total breeze--and totally unnecessary!

3. These pretty little crystals pull double duty as a paperweight and a magnet. Those long holiday to-do lists aren't nearly as intimidating when they're paired with one of these guys.

4. This gift set comes packaged in a beautiful box that could easily be converted into a jewelry case or decorative holder. Each set includes a fresh embossed soap, a scented candle, and a decorative glass dish. Choose from four different color themes. The perfect gift for the girl who loves to pamper herself!

5. Need a housewarming gift in a pinch? These vintage-inspired, rustic prints come framed and ready to hang. An easy, unexpected way to show your favorite hostess how much you care!

6. Let's face it: Every girly-girl needs a good cocktail ring, especially around the holidays. These bold pieces are the perfect statements to punch up a dress or party top, and since they're all adjustable, you don't have to worry about sneaking around to find that special someone's ring size.

7. Sometimes the best gifts are those special little extras we wouldn't otherwise buy for ourselves. A new perfume can be the unexpected luxury that becomes a new favorite. With a selection of fragrances from Lollia, Tokyo Milk, Susan Lang, and Sula, we're sure to have a scent for every girl.

8. There's no better way to battle cold winter weather than with the perfect handcream. These buttery-rich lotions come in three scents and two sizes, a small tube fit for a handbag and a larger size perfect for keeping by the bedside table.

9. Have you ever walked into Mink and thought to yourself, "Wow, it smells good in here?" Well now you can take the smell home with you! We're carrying Voluspa and Capri Blue candles and diffusers that are perfect for bringing to a holiday party or an office gift exchange.

10. The kiss-me kit. Need we say anymore? You can forget the mistletoe when you've got a sheer lipstick and a box of red hot cinna-mints.

Kelsey Joins the Mink Blog

When Carla asked me to help write the store blog, I was very excited. Now, I have to be honest and admit that I've never actually written a blog of any kind before ... but as far as I can tell blogs are here to stay, so I'm happy to give it a try!

Since I'm new to Mink's blog and still pretty new to the store, I thought I'd take this chance to introduce myself. I started working for Mink a few months ago when I moved back to Portland after spending a few years away in California. I'd been living in San Jose and going to school for English and Creative Writing; after graduating last spring, I couldn't wait to come home to Portland (although I could do without the rain...).

This fall I started a Master's program in Book Publishing at PSU, so I spend a fair amount of my time either at school or at the store. And when I'm not working or studying, I stay busy keeping up with all things fashion, from following trends to sketching my own designs to a healthy dose of online shopping (an admitted personal weakness!). I like to justify these activities (especially the shopping) by thinking about them as "research" for my job at Mink!

My favorite memories from Mink so far have been those moments working with customers when we've found the perfect party dress or the pants that finally fit right. I look forward to building these relationships and meeting more of you in the future!

Fall is in Full Bloom!

The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing, Starbucks is serving pumpkin spice lattes, and all that means more than just time to break out the boots and tights: It's time for our new Fall Window display!

From now until the holidays, our window is all abloom with bunches and bunches of handmade paper flowers. The concept was inspired by Portland's beautiful, bright fall leaves and combines elements of color, texture, and movement to create a display that is equally attractive from inside the store as out.

The window has been up for a few weeks now, but for those of you who haven't gotten a chance to see it, drop on by and check it out!

The reinvention of the The Sak

Do you remember The Sak from the 80's? A woven little bag? It came in many sizes, here's a little visual reminder.

Imagine my surprise when I got an email advertising the new The Sak. I actually went to a show for this bag. I had been looking for a great leather handbag that is reasonably priced (you wouldn't believe how hard this is to find, especially when your next door neighbor carries a ton of handbags and I don't want to duplicate). I wanted something that was modern and very wearable and something that could transform easily from day to night. I found it in The Sak. It's not woven, it's a luxe leather. The prices are great, and many convert from cross-body bag to clutch! I love it! Come check them out before they are all gone...

I'm off to market!

I'm heading off to market on Friday. I will be buying for spring. If you have any requests email me at carla@shopmink.com. I always love to hear what my customers want!

I'll bring back some fun pictures of spring previews.
BTW, the store is packed right now, if I don't say so myself, with really amazing pieces. There are like 8 things that I want NOW. Tomorrow I may just have to get them all:) See you soon!
